Beijing (北京, Běijīng, "Northern Capital") is China's second largest city, after Shanghai (population of the city in 2007: 8,495,000 people, the whole municipality: 17,430,000). Beijing is recognized as the political, educational, and cultural center of the People's Republic of China, while Shanghai and Hong Kong predominate in economic fields.

There are many interesting places that you can see in and around Beijing; the most popular ones are the Forbidden City, The great Wall of China and Tian'anmen Square.
