AQSIQ to Phase out “China Top Brands” Logo

23 July 2010

The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) recently issued a circular saying that the use of the “China Top Brand” logo will be phased out gradually between September this year and 2012 pursuant to the Measures for the Administration of China Top Brand Products. The “China Top Brand” logo will be history after that.

According to this circular, the China Promotion Committee for Top Brand Strategy announced a list of 493 China Top Brand products in 2005 with expiration in September 2010. A second list of 556 products was announced in 2006, which will expire in September 2011. The last list of 856 products announced in 2007 will remain in force until September 2012.

After the expiration of these lists, enterprises must cease using the “China Top Brand” logo on their products as well as packaging and presentation, product information, advertising and related materials. For products on the list expiring in September 2010, the logos may continue to be used until 31 December 2010 if the packaging materials and product information have already been printed and the logos are used on the packaging materials and product information. They must cease using the logos after that.

AQSIQ began holding an annual evaluation of “China Top Brands” in 2001 and launched the evaluation of China’s world famous brands in 2005. However, AQSIQ is not permitted to become directly involved in the evaluation of famous brands following the adjustment of its functions in 2008.
